Terry Lee Nelson, 58, of Erie, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, March 5, 2015. Born December 7, 1956, he was the son of James Nelson and Dolores Nelson (Beaufait). He was a 1975 graduate of Erie Mason High School. During his time at Mason, he garnered many athletic awards, including All-State in basketball. Terry married Julie Lesage on September 23, 1978, in Erie, Michigan. They had three daughters: Stacey, Ashley and Danielle. Terry and Julie owned and operated Nelson Excavating Inc. and T & J Properties.

Terry dedicated his life to his family. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. After family, his greatest passion was coaching and mentoring. At Erie Mason, he coached boys and girls basketball and volunteered his time to many other sports. Terry was inducted into the Erie Mason Hall of Fame in 2014. A few of his other hobbies included boating, golfing, riding his Harley, playing cards and hunting.

Terry was a hard working, friendly, outspoken man.  He was willing to give his time to others in so many different ways.  He loved to joke and make people laugh.  Terry touched so many people through coaching and community events.  He was a friend, a coach, and an inspiration that will truly be missed.

Terry is survived by Julie, his loving wife of thirty six years. Daughters Stacey (Andy) Hudak, Ashley Nelson, and Danielle Nelson. Parents James Nelson and Dolores Nelson (Beaufait). Siblings Dawn (Rick Kiessling) Tscherne and Randy (Autumn) Plotner. Sister-in-law Kim Nelson. Grandchildren Brayden, Carter, and Sloane. Extended family the Mortensens, his many in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Terry was preceded in death by a brother, James Nelson, Jr.

Visitation will be from 2-8 PM Monday, March 9, 2015, at the Michael J. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI.  Funeral services will also take place Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 11 AM. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Erie, MI.
